Our Demonstration Home is where a mother or father and child come on an appointment basis.
This offers a homely situation built within the main centre at The Elizabeth Foundation where you come,
on your own, and spend time with our Home Learning Team.
Here we will demonstrate with the child how language building games and activities can be
incorporated into everyday household activities. These might be washing up, making the bed,
preparing food, or cleaning. After demonstrating the activity we will help support you to conduct
these activities with lots of talking, in a way that will best help and support your child.
This is not a formal ‘therapy’ room, and families can spend time in the Demonstration Home discussing
issues, fears and worries about how they are to interact with their babies. Through years of both
professional and personal experience, our staff can offer practical help on how to use activities
in the home to develop listening awareness, language and beginning speech. We introduce you to
resources available to you in your day-to-day life that can be utilized to form part of your
child’s learning and provide any help and information we have to hand that may assist you.
For all our families, spending time in the Demonstration Home presents a unique and invaluable
opportunity for certain activities in an informal environment where you and your baby will feel
more relaxed. Even an hour in the Demonstration Home can make you aware of ways in which to
encorporate learning opportunities into your day-to-day life. From here you will feel better
armed and prepared to tackle the future and go on to take part in our nursery sessions if you
live close enough, or in the Home Learning Programme where that help, guidance and support is
extended through regular correspondence.
The Demonstration Home site is located in the main centre in Cosham, Hampshire and appointments
can be made to come and have individual sessions.
