Peter’s story

“I have been aware for a number of years of the great support The Elizabeth Foundation provides to young deaf children and their parents, by way of a relative who works there full-time and is a passionate advocate of the amazing work they do.

“After working in the Banking Sector in the City of London as an IT project manager, I recently took a decision to make a significant change of direction in life. As part of that change, I decided to volunteer my services. I have now been volunteering part-time at The Elizabeth Foundation since August 2018.

“Alongside the specialist skills that I acquired during my working career, one of my hobbies is photography and media creation. I am now able to use my combined skills providing general support to the Digital Media Manager. I also provide assistance in creating PowerPoint presentation materials that are used in promoting the work of The Elizabeth Foundation – and I have even acted as a handyman!

“As a parent myself, I have been astounded by what I have seen at The Elizabeth Foundation; how the children flourish (both in developing their language and their social skills) under the genuine care and professionalism of all the staff and volunteers. I hope that my contribution will in some small way help the charity continue to grow and extend their work so that other children in similar circumstances are able to share in their immense expertise.

“I would encourage others to consider volunteering too, in whatever capacity suits their time, skills and talents; I know that it will be much appreciated by the charity and its beneficiaries and can also make a positive difference to the individual personally.”
