Sponsored swimmers make a splash to raise thousands

Our annual sponsored swim challenge was a great success this year, with swimmers of all ages completing swims of all distances to raise money for our work.

Going to great lengths to support our work

Our annual sponsored swim has rapidly become a highlight of our events calendar – and this year’s swim at the Oasis Wellness Centre (just next to our Family Centre in Cosham, Portsmouth) on Saturday 2 March 2019 was no exception.

Eight year old Isla (pictured with her mum Donna) was really keen to raise funds for The Elizabeth Foundation. Isla set up her Just Giving page and took on the challenge to #GotheDistanceforDeafness. Isla aimed to complete 80 lengths of the 20 metre pool – an amazing 1 mile or 1.6 km of swimming. However, once she got going there was no stopping her as Isla smashed her target and added on an extra 20 lengths and raised £265.00.

Neil also took on the swimming challenge and doubled his target while swimming from 1 mile to an amazing 2 miles (or 160 lengths!).

They were joined by past pupil Thomas age 10, Catherine (from the NHS Audiology team who provide services based in our Test Centre) and her daughter Amy, Debbie and WI Member Erica.

Our fabulous swimmers together raised in excess of £2,700 to help us continue to offer the best support to preschool deaf children and their families.
